This is our Homemade apple pie recipe

  • 3 to 4 cups of self-raising flour
  • butter or marge
  • milk
  • apples (cooking or eating are fine)
  • sugar

Start by peeling the apples , core and cut into four.

put these in a pan and add enough water to cover with a little sugar and simmer for 10 minutes untill soft .

Next in a bowl add the flour and add enough butter or marge to make very light bread crumb consistency (use hands to rub the marge in ) then add just enough milk to make a dough (more flour can be added if to sticky ect).

Split the dough into two half and take one half and roll this out to the size of the bottom of your dish (don’t forget to flour the worktop so this doesnt stick )

Transfer the rolled out dough onto the bottom of your dish ( using the rolling-pin to lift the dough helps it not rip while lifting and butter or marg the bottom of the dish to help with not sticking when cooked )

Next using a fork prick the whole of the dough on the dish all over . the more holes the better (literally poke it to death lol ).

Now drain your cooked apples  these can be slightly mashed if wanting a smother consistency to filling or left a little lumpy , and add these to your pie dish and sprinkle with a little sugar .

Next roll out your remaining dough again on a floured worktop and add this to the top of your pie

Using your thumbs press along the outside edge all the way around the  pie to seal the edge . make a small slit in the centre .

Using a knife cut away any overhanging dough from around the pie and using left over dough decorate the pie or use these if any filling left to make small individual pies in a muffin tin

Bake at 200 for 20 to 25 mins or untill golden

Once cooked remove from the oven and sprinkle with sugar straight from the oven and enjoy hot or cooled .

we like to enjoy this with fresh cream or custard.

We also sometimes add pears or wild plums to the recipes during the apple cooking stage ( things like plum jam ect can be mixed in with the apples after they have been drained just before added to pie dish (no extra sugar will be needed on top of apples before applying top dough )

Apple pie can be kep in the fridge once cooled and will last 3-4 days

we have also been known to make this recipe on a oven proof large plate and comes out lovely ( we had accidentally smashed our dish )

We hope you enjoy!!
